Configuring the servers
Pre-Installation
This section lists the pre-installation requirements for installing WebServUSB.
Hardware Requirements (minimum recommended):
- Pentium PC (75 MHz, minimum)
- 32 MB RAM
- 2 MB disk space (minimum)
- TCP/IP (either Ethernet card or dialup adapter)
- Monitor with a minimum of 640x480 resolution and at least 256 colors
Software Requirements:
- MS Windows 95/98 or NT, Windows 2000 and XP are preferred because they are
more stable
- TCP/IP must be installed
Web browsers require a TCP/IP protocol stack to communicate with a Web server, even if the server is on the same machine and there is no intervening network.
You must have TCP/IP installed to use WebServUSB. By
default this is already installed in Windows 2000 and Windows XP based machines,
its only a concern if you are using a lesser OS.
To install WebServUSB:
Plug in the WebServUSB plug into a USB port on your PC. Once the Operating
System has recognized it as a disk drive it will assign it a letter. Open the
new Drive letter in Windows Explorer and double click on the Install program. It
will launch a short program that will ensure WebServUSB starts each time you
plug it in.
- Plug in the WebServUSB into any USB port on your computer. If you have
Windows ME, 2000, or XP it will automatically be recognized and installed.
- Using Windows Explorer, locate WebServUSB in the drive letter list and open
it.
- Locate the WSUSB-Installer.exe file and double click on it.
- Allow the Installer to complete
- Unplug the WebServUSB plug, wait 1 minute, then plug it in again
- AutoRunUSB should then start and automatically launch WebServUSB
- Every time you plug in WebServUSB to another computer, run the WSUSB-Installer
to allow AutoRunUSB to start the Web Server automatically each time you plug in
Re-Installing WebServUSB from CD ROM
1- Format the WebServUSB device using Windows. Locate the WebServUSB Drive in
"My Computer" and Right Click, choose FORMAT and FAT32 as the type of file
system
2- Put the WebServUSB CD ROM in your CD drive, the Setup menu will run
3- Select "Restore WebServUSB" and follow the instructions

- If you have more than one PC and are using a remote as your server see the author's notes.
Your browser should display the demo page for WebServUSB. Rather than using "localhost" you may
also use either your machine name, or your IP address.
