FTP Users

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) allows a user to upload and download files from a server. This can be either their web page space (such as \docs\username\ or a special download folder not accessible by the HTTP server on the WebServUSB drive or a disk drive elsewhere on the PC or network as a mapped drive.

Let's add a User
You must first create a user in the general Server section, then add that user to the FTP section to give them FTP access rights. You must also choose a drive or folder location that the user is allowed to access.

  1. Click the Users button singlfig.gif - 1kb and select first in the 'Select a User' window. Click OK.

  2. It will appear in the User Name bar
  3. Home Directory: now browse to the 'first' folder and single click it.
  4. Click Add Modify
  5. Click Save

Now go to another PC and open your FTP program (Such as WS FTP Another good one is available from www.smartftp.com ).

WS FTP

Click the New button to add a new FTP address.

Profile Name: BWL First is the name I gave the user 'first'

The Host is: 192.168.0.2

The Password is: 1111 (it is strongly recommended that you use complex passwords, this is just for testing)

Click the Startup Tab:

In the 'Initial Remote Site Folder' bar type first (in lower case)

Then click OK. You will be logged in to the BWL user directory.
